Emirates has announced that it will cover its passengers free of charge for COVID-19 related medical and quarantine expenses when travelling onboard Emirates, to and from the UAE to the rest of the world.
Emirates customers can travel confidently, with the ability to claim a maximum of EUR 150,000 in medical expenses and EUR 100 per day for 14 days in quarantine costs, should they be diagnosed with COVID-19 during their travel, under the directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.
The move by Emirates is to boost confidence in international travel, according to H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Emirates Group Chairman and Chief Executive. "We know that people are yearning to fly as borders around the world gradually reopen, but they need flexibility and assurance should something unforeseen happen during their travel", he added.
Continuing his statement, H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, said, "Emirates has worked tirelessly to put measures in place at every step of the customer journey to mitigate the risk of infection. Our booking policies have also been revamped to offer flexibility. This added service is taking it to the next level, being the first in the industry to offer our customers free global insurance cover for COVID-19 medical expenses and quarantine costs, should these costs be incurred during their travel. It is an investment on our part, but our customers come first, and we believe they will welcome this initiative."
The coverage for COVID-19 related medical expenses and quarantine costs is offered by Emirates free of cost to its customers regardless of their class of travel and/or destination. This cover comes into immediate effect for customers flying on Emirates until 30th October 2020 (first flight to be completed on or before 30th October 2020).
According to the airline, the cover is valid for 31 days from the first leg of each passenger's journey. This means Emirates customers can continue to benefit from the added assurance of this cover, should they travel onwards to another destination after arrival at their Emirates destination.
The airline does not require customers to register for this service, instead, any customer diagnosed with COVID-19 during their travel should contact the dedicated hotline to avail this service.
